New To Pickleball? Start Here

The fastest-growing sport in the country, and the one our players most often pick up from scratch. What a beginner needs to know.

Four players at the net during a doubles pickleball rally on an outdoor court

Pickleball is the sport people join our leagues to learn, rather than to continue. That shapes how the divisions run.

The learning curve is short

The court is small, the ball is slow, and the paddle does most of the work. Most people can hold a rally on their first evening, which is not true of tennis and is the whole reason the sport has spread the way it has.

Skill levels

Round-robin formats mean you play several opponents a night rather than one. If your first match is lopsided, the next one usually is not.

  • Bring a paddle if you have one; ask the site manager if you do not
  • Trainers with a flat sole, not running shoes
  • Water, especially for outdoor seasons

Singles and doubles brackets, where they are running, are listed on the pickleball page.
