Most people who email us before their first season ask some version of the same question: what am I actually walking into? It is a fair thing to want to know. Here is the whole evening, in order.
Before you arrive
Your captain gets the schedule through LeagueLab, and every start date is on our calendar page as soon as the season is confirmed. Show up ten minutes early on the first night — that is enough time to find the right court and meet the people you have only seen as names on a roster.
The first fifteen minutes
A site manager is on site for every league we run. They have the schedule, the equipment and the answer to whatever has gone wrong. Find them, tell them your team name, and they will point you at your court and your opponent.
- Bring a light shirt and a dark shirt if your team has not sorted out colours yet
- Water is on you; the venue may or may not have a fountain
- Phones and bags go on the sideline, not the court
Play
Games are self-officiated in most of our leagues, which sounds alarming for about one match and then stops mattering. The people you are playing against signed up for the same reason you did. When a call is genuinely disputed, the site manager settles it — that is written into our league policies, along with what happens on forfeits and how playoffs are seeded.
Nobody here is auditioning for anything. The scoreboard resets every week.
After
Plenty of teams head to the sponsor bar afterwards. Some do not. Neither is the wrong answer, and no one keeps track.
